| Why Does a Government Institution Need Private Support? | |
| Response by New NDU Foundation President and CEO, Walter E. Stadtler, Ambassador (Ret) | |
Partnerships between dedicated Americans and NDU create immeasurable possibilites for a more positive future of US National Security. |
Why does NDU need private support? Like all government, publicly funded universities and institutions, the National Defense University is at the mercy of projected funds availability. Recently an educational assessment described the current NDU financial situation in this way: “Given the global war on terror, significant budget pressure is being felt, and is likely to continue.” I'm sure you will agree that the strategic development of our national security leadership must not suffer in this period of our history when it is most needed. In this time of expanding security concerns and shrinking budgetary support, your help has never been more critical. We need to maintain and preserve the pre-eminence NDU has achieved in national and international security education. Unrestricted private gift support expands the National Defense University 's margin of excellence by funding initiatives that go beyond the core sufficiency provided by the federal government. Those who give a gift to our Annual Campaign understand that funding appropriated by Congress maintains basic requirements; but private support enables excellence. Through support of NDU, you can personally impact the future of this nation's security. Your gift makes a difference. Your continued support and commitment to our country's security is greatly appreciated. Walter E. Stadtler, Ambassador (Ret); President and CEO, NDU Foundation |
